Melody He
Co-founder & Partner, Co-Head of Spartan Advisory
Melody, a native of Beijing, has been an active early stage tech investor over the past decade and an early investor in blockchain companies.
Previously, Melody was an investment partner at MOX/SOSV, a global top accelerator VC. Melody was part of Trilogy Ventures, a China-based early stage venture fund, where she screened hundreds of investment opportunities, led over a dozen early stage investments and launched ChinaStars, a university hackathon.
Prior to being a venture investor, Melody started her career in finance at the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs and UBS. As an entrepreneur, Melody also had an award winning mobile app and worked with China's leading private schools to develop their mobile education products.
Casper B. Johansen
Co-founder & Partner, Co-Head of Spartan Advisory
Based in Asia since 2004, Casper has worked as an investment banker, tech entrepreneur, corporate executive and private equity investor.
Casper co-heads Spartan’s advisory business, which works with industry leaders in the blockchain and decentralized finance space. Prior to Spartan, Casper spent 10 years in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs in their London, Hong Kong, Beijing and Singapore offices, where he led and worked on more than $20 billion of M&A and capital markets transactions.
Casper has been an active tech angel investor for over a decade, and is an active blockchain and digital assets investor. Prior to his corporate career, Casper was an officer in the Royal Danish Air Force and received a bachelor and master of laws from Aarhus University in Denmark.
Kelvin Koh
Co-founder & Partner, CIO, Spartan Capital
Kelvin has over 20 years of experience in investment and research across multiple asset classes and geographies.
Prior to serving as CIO of Spartan Capital, the hedge fund arm of Spartan Group, Kelvin was Managing Partner of Trident Venture Partners, an early stage venture capital firm.
Previously, Kelvin was a Partner and China CIO at Indus Capital, an Asia-focused equity hedge fund with over $6.5 billion in assets under management. Before joining Indus Capital, Kelvin was also Partner and Head of Research at Goldman Sachs, where he spent 18 years across its Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing offices. He started his career there as a research analyst, during which he garnered top rankings from Institutional Investor, AsiaMoney and Greenwich Associates for his industry-leading analysis.
Jason Choi
Head of Research and General Partner, Spartan Capital
Prior to Spartan, Jason spent 2 years researching cryptoassets and sharing some of his conversations on The Blockcrunch Podcast.
Jason first came across Bitcoin while a student at the Wharton School of Business. There, he helped launch Contrary Capital, a decentralized, first-check venture fund backed by executives from Facebook, Tesla, Twitch, and Reddit. Turning his attention to crypto, Jason grew Blockcrunch, a research-driven cryptoasset podcast targeting global institutional investors, to 10% of global shows in the world by per episode downloads within 1.5 years.
Prior to returning to Hong Kong, Jason was an analyst at Deloitte Consulting's New York office assisting with the firm’s fintech and blockchain initiatives, and interned at global macro hedge fund Bridgewater Associates.
Leeor Groen
Executive Director, Spartan Advisory
Leeor brings over 8+ years of experience in dealmaking, investing into and advising technology companies across Europe and Asia. Prior to joining Spartan, Leeor was a Partner at Swiss venture firm BVV where he built an extensive track record backing early-and growth-stage companies. An early mover in the Fintech and Digital Asset ecosystem, Leeor has been fully dedicated to the emerging industry since 2016. Having spent his career at the intersection of finance and technology, Leeor holds several board positions and draws on a wealth of international experience having lived and worked professionally across the UK, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Singapore and Australia.
Tommy Chang
Associate, Spartan Advisory
Tommy joined Spartan as an advisory associate to help blockchain projects establish a presence in the Asian market. In the past, Tommy has worked as a project manager for cloud server industry, a tech entrepreneur for an investing platform, and head of research for a venture firm.
Prior to joining Spartan, Tommy was head of research at Red Building Capital, a venture firm with a focus of blockchain investment. Having discovered crypto in early 2017 and actively invested in over 20 projects, Tommy believes in a decentralized web 3.0 and an open financial system. During the crypto craziness of 2017, Tommy co-founded Block Panther, an ICO investing platform that served thousands of crypto investors worldwide through primary market investing. He was also a product manager at Quanta Computer and helped 8 server products to clients including Dropbox, Uber, and Microsoft, generating over 2M USD in one year.
Tommy graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.A. in business in 2014.
Bart Mahendran
Associate, Spartan Advisory
Prior to joining Spartan Group, Bart worked with SOSV (#2 most active seed investor in the world) in Shanghai, helping early-stage projects draw investments and establish a foothold in Asia. It was here where he first learned about Blockchain and digital assets. Since then, Bart has also worked within the assets trading space, servicing brokers in APAC. His experience in blockchain research includes on-chain surveillance and transaction monitoring. Bart also has Management Consulting experience during his stint with Accenture, where he worked on projects to help digitize Singapore's supply chain ecosystem. Bart is an engineering graduate from the National University of Singapore, and previously served as a military officer with the Guards Formation (Singapore Armed Forces).
Chetanya Khandelwal
Associate, Spartan Advisory
Prior to joining the Spartan group, Chetanya interned at Greenhill & Co. as an investment banking analyst. In the past, he has worked on various transactions including private equity, venture capital, and mergers & acquisitions. He discovered blockchain and cryptos in early 2018 during his academic exchange program in Boston. Impressed by the huge potential offered by the blockchain technology, he founded the HKU Blockchain Club - the first-ever student-run blockchain society in Hong Kong. There he created a platform to equip students with the necessary skills to carry out blockchain projects in the form of enterprises or academics.
Chetanya received a bachelor's degree with the highest distinction in Economics and Finance in 2020.
Dana Gan
Analyst, Spartan Advisory
Prior to Spartan, Dana worked with Allianz Consulting APAC, where she worked on global strategic/market entry projects. She has been active with her personal crypto portfolio as she finds the fundamentals and narratives of digital assets intriguing. She strongly believes that both investing and business opportunities within this emerging and nascent industry are unparalleled.
Dana graduated from Nanyang Technological University with double degrees in Actuarial Science and Accountancy in 2021. She has also represented her school in various national & international business case competitions.
Gabriel Tan
Investment Analyst, Spartan Capital
Prior to Spartan, Gabriel practised as a M&A lawyer with Allen & Gledhill LLP, a leading Southeast Asian law firm. He first became interested in cryptocurrencies when he interned at itBit during its early days in 2014 and since then, he has been actively researching and investing in the space. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business Management from the Singapore Management University.
Sanat Kapur
Investment Analyst, Spartan Capital
Prior to joining Spartan, Sanat worked as a data scientist at Uber on the policy team. Sanat has previously worked as an analyst at NERA, an economic consulting firm, where he had the chance to work on cryptocurrency related financial litigation. He's been excited about cryptocurrencies since 2016, and has been actively investing and conducting research in the space. He received undergraduate degrees in Mathematics-Statistics and Economics from Columbia University.
Aditya Saraf
Investment Analyst, Spartan Capital
Prior to Spartan, Aditya started his career with Mu Sigma, a data science firm in Bangalore, during which he jumped into crypto as an enthusiast in early 2017. He pursued algorithmic trading in the crypto derivatives market while also focusing on fundamental strategies. Aditya holds a Bachelor of Technology from NIT Surathkal and an MBA in business administration from Singapore Management University.
Calvin Poon
Investment Analyst, Spartan Capital
Prior to Spartan, Calvin was an associate at Sora Ventures, an Asia-based blockchain VC dedicated to digital asset and blockchain investments. He was responsible for the deal structuring, research and post-investment management.
Calvin’s blockchain career began at OKEx in late 2017, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world. He then worked at Shanghai’s Guotai Junan Securities as an emerging tech research intern, specializing in blockchain application and scalability research. Calvin later joined Coinsuper, a Hong Kong crypto exchange, as an ICO analyst, where he scouted and analyzed ICO projects and assisted in business development.
Calvin obtained a Bachelor of Economics and International Relations degree from Boston University.
Jiwon Kang
Head of Investor Relations
Starting her career at Goldman Sachs Investment Research as a research analyst, Jiwon has over 14 years of experience across equity research, capital markets and marketing and investor relations in alternative asset management. Prior to joining Spartan Capital, Jiwon was a member of the investor relations group at Och-Ziff Capital Management in Hong Kong, one of the largest alternative asset management firms with $48 billion in assets under management at the time of hiring, where she focused on fundraising and managing relationships with major Asian institutional investors. Prior to that, Jiwon was a Vice President at Deutsche Bank Equity Capital Markets in Hong Kong, where she was involved in originating and syndicating a number of mega IPOs and capital raisings for Asian corporations.
Teo Li Hui
Legal & Compliance Officer
Prior to joining Spartan, Li Hui was a litigation lawyer at Allen & Gledhill, one of the leading law firms in Singapore, where her practice encompassed employment, white-collar crime, regulatory and compliance, and corporate governance matters. Li Hui graduated from the Singapore Management University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Laws and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2019.
Yvonne Chen
Head of Operations
Yvonne has extensive experience in operations and marketing. Prior to joining Spartan Group, Yvonne was an operations executive at Ternary Fund Management where she handled fund operations and a number of support functions. Before that, she works in various marketing and operations roles with Maplebear Explorers, Koplina and Singapore Airlines.
Edward Lam
Finance Associate
Prior to joining Spartan Group, Edward worked as an accountant in Ernst & Young. During his time there, Edward assisted in the auditing for clients from various industries, which was where he developed an interest in the industry of digital assets and cryptocurrencies. Edward graduated from University of Salford and received First Class Honours in BSc Accounting and Finance in 2018.
Jashviny Ravichandan
Operations Analyst
Prior to joining Spartan, Jashviny worked as an Operations Executive with Forte Engineering and Aru & Associates, where she gained her experience in operations including sales and finances. Jashviny graduated from Asia Pacific University with a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance in 2019.
